FoundationDB has been open source for over a year now. Unique in a number of ways, from its testing strategies to its underlying design, the FOSS database community has a new powerful tool at its disposal. In this talk, I'll go over what I've learned from packaging FoundationDB for NixOS -- a unique Linux distribution with many underlying design principles that make it an excellent system for deploying and building FoundationDB in a reliable way. This will include the trials in packaging FDB itself, running its large-scale simulation tests, notes on its build system, and possible future changes that might make it easier for other developers in the future.
